We’re proud to celebrate our team member Dr. Lucas Kitula, who officially graduated on June 13, 2025, from the University of Dar es Salaam after successfully defending his PhD earlier this year.

His dissertation, “Religion, Secularism, and Everyday Humanitarianism in Disaster-Affected Local Communities in Tanzania: A Case of Kilosa District,” sheds light on the vital role of religious actors in shaping local humanitarian responses in times of crisis.

Dr. Kitula’s research is a powerful contribution to the understanding of how disaster-affected communities navigate aid, faith, and resilience—and we’re thrilled to see his achievement formally recognized.

Hongera sana, Dr. Kitula! We look forward to your continued impact on the Everyday Humanitarianism in Tanzania project and beyond.
