Congratulations to our team member Dr. Lucas Kitula, who successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on February 5, 2025. His dissertation, titled “Religion, Secularism, and Everyday Humanitarianism in Disaster-Affected Local Communities in Tanzania: A Case of Kilosa District,” explores the critical role of religious actors in shaping humanitarian efforts in Tanzania’s disaster-affected regions.
Dr. Kitula’s work offers valuable insights into how community responses to disaster are influenced by religious frameworks. His research, conducted within the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam’s College of Humanities (CoHU), is an important contribution to the fields of humanitarian studies, disaster management, and the role of religion in crisis settings.
We congratulate Dr. Kitula for this achievement and look forward to his continued contributions to Everyday Humanitarianism in Tanzania and beyond.
