The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is in the final stages of reviewing a proposed Master’s in Emergency Response and Humanitarian Actions—a significant step forward in strengthening disaster preparedness and humanitarian response efforts in Tanzania and beyond.
Set to launch in October 2025, this full-time, 180-credit program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage crises caused by natural disasters, human-made emergencies, and humanitarian challenges. In recent years, Tanzania and many other regions have faced increasing threats, from floods and droughts to conflict-induced displacement. The impacts are most severe in vulnerable communities, often lacking the resources and infrastructure to cope.
By integrating research, field-based learning, and policy engagement, this program will prepare future humanitarians to lead effective, locally informed emergency responses. If approved, this marks a key research achievement for our team and a milestone in fostering resilience in crisis-affected communities.
